Versaterm Acquires Texas-Based DroneSense for Over $100 Million

Ottawa-based Versaterm has acquired Austin-based DroneSense to integrate the drone management platform into its public safety agency solutions. The transaction is valued at over $100 million USD, paid through cash and equity. Versaterm aims to enhance drone deployment in emergency response by integrating DroneSense’s capabilities with its systems. With relaxed regulations on unmanned aerial vehicles in the US and Canada, Versaterm’s acquisition marks a significant step towards routine drone use in public safety. Founded in 2015, DroneSense offers a “drone as first responder” platform for aerial incident evaluation. Changes in Canadian regulations will soon allow more flexible drone operations. Founded in 1977, Versaterm provides public safety software and is profitable with over $100 million USD in annual revenues. The DroneSense deal is expected to increase Versaterm’s revenue by over $10 million USD and add 1,300 customers. Since being acquired by Banneker Partners in 2020, Versaterm has made multiple acquisitions, including Mindbase and Integrated Computer Systems.
