US government reportedly in talks to acquire stake in Intel

The Trump administration is once again engaging with semiconductor giant Intel.

The U.S. government is reportedly in talks to acquire a stake in Intel, according to Bloomberg. This arrangement aims to support the company’s expansion in U.S. manufacturing, including the delayed Ohio chip facility.

This development follows President Donald Trump demanding Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan’s resignation over potential conflicts of interest. Although Trump didn’t specify, the demand came after Republican U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton questioned Tan’s alleged connections to China in a letter to Intel’s board.

Tan met with the Trump administration on August 11 to address concerns and explore collaboration opportunities with the government. Bloomberg notes this meeting began talks about the U.S. government acquiring a stake in the company.

Intel has not commented.

“Intel is deeply committed to supporting President Trump’s efforts to strengthen U.S. technology and manufacturing leadership,” an Intel spokesperson stated. “We look forward to our continued work with the Trump Administration to advance these shared goals, but we will not comment on rumors or speculation.”
