The essentials
- The stack: Postgres, Node.js/Express.js, React. Currently on Heroku, moving to AWS
- The product: We are creating the ultimate finance suite for managing billing, revenue recognition, subscription metrics, and more
- The work style:
- This is a remote position – work from anywhere, in any timezone
- We are an asynchronous team – no scheduled meetings, allowing individuals to choose their schedules and communicate via writing and videos. Hear our co-founder Michelle Lee speak about asynchronous work (click here).
- We work autonomously – goals are set, and team members determine their approach to achieve them together.
- Your role on our team:
- Be among the first ten engineers on our team.
- Your tasks will include:
- Backend: database design, data management, API design, and testing
- Frontend: feature development in our React app, HTML/CSS and styled components, enhancing user experience, and testing
- Full stack: product development, collaboration with designers and founders to create a product users will love.
- We are scrappy, but not on compensation: Subscript commits to market-rate pay for our excellent team members, including benefits.
Our interview process
Our interview focuses on your skills as a software engineer and your clear communication abilities. We are fully asynchronous, and our interview will be too 🙂.
- A small code challenge will be given to you
- Upon reviewing the initial challenge, we’ll ask you to complete a ~90 minute exercise with a screen recording video.
- If successful, we’ll assess your written communication by requesting a technical design document. This form of communication is crucial at Subscript.
Finally, we aim to offer you a position, hoping you’ll accept!

- You’re an excellent engineer (writing high-quality code, creating effective tests, and delivering quickly)
- You communicate well in writing and through recorded videos.
