Strangeworks, US Quantum Computing Company, Expands in Europe by Acquiring Quantagonia

US-based quantum and high-performance computing software company Strangeworks announced it has acquired Germany’s Quantagonia. Founded in 2021 by Dirk Zechiel, Philipp Hannemann, Prof Sabina Jeschke, and Prof Sebastian Pokutta, Quantagonia specializes in AI-driven, quantum-ready planning technology that enhances decision-making for experts and business users by integrating optimization, AI, and natural language capabilities for complex planning problems.

The merger eliminates long-standing obstacles for both subject matter experts and non-technical users, enabling enterprises to apply AI to resolve complex planning issues across various sectors including life sciences, finance, energy, aerospace, logistics, and manufacturing, addressing use cases from scheduling to route planning and inventory optimization.

This acquisition opens new market opportunities by reaching a wider audience that was previously underserved. The new entity will advance Strangeworks’ current solutions by integrating Quantagonia’s expertise in mathematical optimization and AI-driven decision-making tools with Strangeworks’ AI and quantum infrastructure, extensive computing catalogue, and partner network.

With recent expansion into India, this acquisition bolsters Strangeworks’ market position and advances its strategic goals in Europe. Central to Quantagonia’s offerings are its state-of-the-art technologies designed to tackle complex optimization planning challenges:

– The solver orchestration engine, a sophisticated, hardware-agnostic technology, manages and selects solvers intelligently to achieve high performance by orchestrating multiple solvers in parallel.
– AI-powered decision-making solutions equipped with LLMs complement the solver engine by providing an intuitive interface for non-technical experts to formulate and solve problems without deep technical expertise.

“This acquisition unites two powerful visions into a transformative force for organizations seeking to harness advanced computing,” said William Hurley, founder and CEO of Strangeworks.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Quantagonia team onboard. Their expertise in AI and optimization drives innovation across Europe and beyond,” he added.

Dirk Zechiel, CEO of Quantagonia, stated that partnering with Strangeworks will enhance their global reach and offer sophisticated optimization capabilities to more customers.

With Quantagonia’s presence in Munich and Frankfurt, Strangeworks extends its influence across the US, Europe, and APAC, setting the stage for significant global expansion. Supported by investors like IBM, Hitachi Ventures, RTX Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Great Point Ventures, Strangeworks is making next-generation computing solutions increasingly accessible worldwide.
