When you’re enjoying a song, you might want to share it on your story. However, sharing from Spotify traditionally only includes the album art, song title, and artist name, without any audio. To share audio, you generally need to use Instagram’s music feature.
This is changing as Spotify now allows sharing audio snippets to your Instagram story. The company announced this new feature on Thursday. To use it, press the share button on a Spotify song, select “Stories” with the Instagram logo, and your Instagram app opens to a new story, featuring the album art and a snippet of the song. A sticker is also included, enabling viewers to open the song in their Spotify app.
Spotify users have welcomed this change as many have requested this integration for years. A Reddit post from April 2021 highlights some fans who will be pleased with this update.
Spotify is also introducing real-time music sharing to Instagram Notes. Notes let you post a short message to your DM feed, and now, they can update to show what you’re currently listening to on Spotify. To set this up, start a note in Instagram, tap the music icon, select “Link Spotify,” and follow the instructions.
Spotify notes that if you’re already listening to music, your note updates immediately. Otherwise, it will show the next song you listen to within 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can share a specific song to Notes, similar to how you share to a story, by selecting “Notes” instead.
While some may enjoy sharing their musical experiences, I personally avoid using Instagram Notes or Stories for real-time music sharing, preferring not to disclose every track I listen to with my Instagram followers.
