Notion Now Functions Offline

For years, Notion’s cloud-first design meant that offline functionality was limited, causing frustration among users. The company has now addressed this by introducing an offline mode for its apps.

In a widely expected move, the company announced on Tuesday via a post that this update fulfills one of the most popular user requests.

Users can now view, edit, and create notes without internet access on Notion’s desktop and mobile apps. The apps also offer the option to download pages for offline use.

Changes made offline will sync when the app reconnects to the internet, although some elements like embeds, forms, or buttons require an internet connection to function.

For subscribers of the Plus, Business, or Enterprise plans, the app automatically downloads recently viewed and favorite pages.

Users have the option to disable automatic downloads or control them through a new “Offline” menu in the settings.

Ivan Zhao, Notion’s CEO, explained on X that the delay in rolling out this feature was due to the app’s complex database structure and the need to develop a conflict resolution system for instances when multiple users edit a document offline.
