Meta co-founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, discusses his vision for “superintelligence” after recruiting top AI researchers from OpenAI, Google, and Apple, offering lucrative pay packages.

In a newly released statement, Zuckerberg notes, “We are seeing early signs of our AI systems enhancing themselves. This progress, albeit slow, brings us closer to developing superintelligence.”

He elaborates on Meta’s concept of personalized superintelligence consistent with its products like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, emphasizing user customization.

Zuckerberg distances Meta’s approach from others in the industry, critiquing centralized AI efforts aimed at automating most valuable work, potentially a jab at OpenAI. He emphasizes personal empowerment and believes superintelligence should enable individuals to follow personal aspirations, advancing prosperity, science, health, and culture.

In a video message, Zuckerberg underscores, “Meta’s mission is to place superintelligence in the hands of individuals, allowing them to prioritize personal values.”

Though seemingly divergent, Zuckerberg’s outlook shares similarities with OpenAI’s notion of personalized AI. Both companies foresee AI enhancing human capabilities and productivity.

Zuckerberg’s full statement reflects optimism about AI accelerating human progress and empowering people. He highlights Meta’s dedication to ensuring accessible superintelligence, which aligns with individual empowerment over replacing societal functions. Zuckerberg concludes, “Meta is committed to creating personal superintelligence to empower everyone.”

Meta’s pursuit aligns with advancing personal superintelligence, advocating for shared technological benefits. Despite potential risks, Zuckerberg believes in prioritizing empowerment for a free society. As this decade unfolds, the path of superintelligence remains pivotal.
