Making friends as an adult is challenging, especially after relocating to a new city. Fortunately, technology helps, with apps like Bumble For Friends, Flox, and Timeleft facilitating quick connections.
Les Amis, an app, focuses on women, transgender, and LGBTQ+ individuals aged 20s to 40s. It utilizes AI to match users with similar interests and suggests local events like pottery classes, book clubs, and Pilates.
Anna Bilych (formerly of PayPal) and her co-founder Oleg Pashinin (formerly of Google AI) created the app in 2022 to rebuild social circles after moving. The European app is expanding to the U.S., having launched in New York recently.
Les Amis, meaning “friends” in French, connects users with like-minded people in their area, resembling dating apps through profiles, interests, and photos. An AI assistant named “Amis” aids in matches every two weeks based on shared interests and similar life stages.
The app’s AI matches users on Mondays, allowing time for meetups later. It also features an explore page for local events and recent “Trips” to destinations like Morocco and Iceland.
Les Amis operates on a membership model, with fees varying by city, such as $70 in New York. The membership includes credits for experiences in any city where it operates.
Available on iOS and Android across Europe, including cities like Amsterdam and Barcelona, Les Amis launched in Austin, New York, and plans to expand to Boston, Washington, D.C., and eventually Los Angeles.
While there are no current events in New York, they will begin on August 25. The app is in the application phase, with over 2,000 applications from New Yorkers.
Les Amis has about 120,000 installs, 30,000 women have attended events, and the company has reached an annual run rate of $1 million.
