Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company (HOPCo), a U.S.-based expert in musculoskeletal value-based care and outcomes management, has acquired Amsterdam’s Caro Health, a digital health startup focused on enhancing healthcare communication with AI.

The acquisition boosts HOPCo’s presence in Europe and aligns with its plan to develop a global, AI-centric health platform.

Partnering with HOPCo lets us speed up our technology, broaden our impact, and deliver smart, personalized healthcare communication globally more efficiently,” said Thomas Goijarts, Caro Health’s Co-founder and CEO.

It will also help us better serve our European clientele in the Netherlands and beyond by utilizing HOPCo’s clinical knowledge and robust digital offerings. This approach keeps us focused on our main strengths while fast-tracking patient-focused, value-driven tech solutions. We’re thrilled to contribute to the HOPCo Digital Health Team and aim to extend our European success to the U.S.,” he added.

Established in 2019, Caro Health has developed an AI system that offers tailored communication for patients and providers. Currently supporting nearly 40 healthcare entities in the Netherlands and Belgium, its platform aids various clinical fields, such as orthopaedics, integrating seamlessly with electronic health record systems to improve efficiency and reduce administrative tasks.

As a result of the acquisition, Caro Co-founder Goijarts will assume the role of Head of Products at HOPCo Digital, under the Global Chief Information Officer. Caro Co-founder Guusje van der Heijden will spearhead customer success and delivery for HOPCo in Europe, focusing on growth and enhancing digital platform services for clients.

HOPCo aims to expand its European office, increasing resources to facilitate international growth and strengthen global healthcare collaborations.

Caro’s platform and team will be merged into HOPCo’s Digital Health Division, contributing to AI advancements in products like HOPCo Vitals, myrecovery by HOPCo, HOPCo’s EMR Ecosystem, and its cloud-based solutions for healthcare providers.

We’re greatly impressed by Caro’s strategic use of Conversational AI in clinical workflows,” stated Dr Tom Harte, President of HOPCo Digital. “The Caro team has shown that collaborating with physicians to merge cutting-edge technology with clinical expertise enhances both patient experiences and operational workflows, allowing physicians and administrators to concentrate on patient care.”

Through digital health partnerships in the US, UK, Australia, and Europe, HOPCo delivers value-based care programs aimed at enhancing patient outcomes while reducing costs. Integrating Caro’s technology is anticipated to bolster these initiatives, offering measurable benefits to patients and healthcare providers across regions.

“At HOPCo, we’re crafting the most comprehensive global digital platform with vital products and services to support practices, surgery centers, health systems, and payors – from patient management to leading Cloud security,” noted Chris Martinez, Global Chief Information Officer at HOPCo.

Integrating Caro Health’s pioneering technology across our digital suite will speed up our AI strategy and enable us to better assist our global clientele in providing superior, cost-effective care. Our time-to-value is crucial to our triumph, and we will persist in making strategic acquisitions, creating new products, and hiring esteemed engineering talent,” he concluded.
