I’ve been suggesting several free workout instructors on YouTube recently, covering activities from Pilates to cycling, but stretching is also crucial before (and perhaps after) these classes. YouTube is a great free alternative to subscription services like Peloton or Les Mills+, provided you know what to avoid in terms of unsafe at-home workout videos. While I’m a fan of Peloton’s guided stretches, the following are excellent free options:
**The Ready State**
The Ready State channel is led by a real-life physical therapist aiming to improve movement, agility, and strength for everyday people. Unlike many YouTube classes that target the fittest individuals, these sessions are accessible and practical. The videos focus on educating about stretching while teaching the techniques and benefits, providing a science-backed and functional approach.
**Mady Morrison**
Mady Morrison’s channel has nearly 4 million subscribers who enjoy her calming stretch routines. With gentle music and clear on-screen instructions, the sessions are easy to follow despite the absence of verbal cues. However, when Morrison does speak, it’s in German, which may distract some viewers.
**Tom Merrick**
Known as The Bodyweight Warrior, Tom Merrick offers varied routines for his 1 million subscribers. His videos cater to different experience levels, from 12-minute stretches for beginners to longer sessions for advanced users. Merrick provides clear instructions, reminders to avoid overexertion, and suggestions for adjustments to suit individual comfort levels.
**Maddie Lymburner**
Maddie Lymburner, or @MadFit, has nearly 11 million subscribers and offers numerous video styles, with a dedicated stretching playlist. It features specific stretch routines of varying lengths and focuses, such as a 12-minute desk stretch. Although there’s no on-screen text, her clear instructions and well-filmed clips make it easy to follow along.
